Michael "Mike" Edward Quillin, 74, of Waterville, IA died Monday, September 9, 2024, at his home after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Mike was born April 25, 1950, in Prairie Du Chien, WI to Ben and Marcella Quillin. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann – St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, IA. Mike attended St. George High School in Lansing and graduated from Waukon High School in 1968.
Mike married Diane Margaret Hill on January 3, 1972, at St. Patrick's Church in Waukon, IA. They were blessed with a daughter Kerry.
Mike was employed at Interstate Power Lansing Generation Station (later Alliant Energy) for 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and being outside – from fishing on the river to cutting and splitting firewood. A great day for Mike entailed loading his chainsaw in his tractor and along with his dog Casey heading up the valley. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them participate in their sports.
Mike was especially proud of his 46 years of sobriety and his connection and membership in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughter Kerry (Mike) Brennan; grandchildren Quinn (Claire) Brennan of Lansing, IA, Danny (Sydney) Brennan of Ames, IA, and Katie (friend Kyle Schnobrich) of Richfield, MN; sister Molly (Kim) Ramsey of The Villages, FL, brothers Pat (Carol) Quillin of Manitou Springs, CO, Kevin (Ann) Quillin of Waukon, IA, Tim (Anne) Quillin of Lawrence, KS, Terry (Mara) Quillin of Mesa, AZ, and Sean Quillin of Miles, IA; sister-in-law Debbie (Darold) Berger of Waukon, IA and brother-in-law Denny (Jamie) Hill of Waukon, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Marcie and mother and father in-law Merv and Hazel (Knight) Hill.
Mike's family would like to extend a special thank you to WinnMed Hospice for their compassionate care, and all family and friends for all the love, support, and assistance.
