Michael Lynn Rattan, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Tolar on July 17, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on August 28, 1952, in Fort Worth, to John and June Rattan. His loving parents raised him in Fort Worth and Crowley where he graduated high school. He married his true love, Jackie, on September 10, 1981. Mike retired from Southwestern Bell and AT&T after 30 years of service. Mike and Jackie spent a wonderful life together raising 5 kids that grew by adding 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and recent additions of several more.

He had been bravely battling lung cancer for the second time since October, facing it with strength and humor, just like everything else in life.Mike loved his wife and family above all else. Making memories with them was his life. He also had a passion for collecting vintage cars, antique telephones, and old coins. Hunting, fishing, the love of music, and trips to the casino were some of his favorite pastimes that he shared with his family and friends.Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie (McGuffin) Rattan, his son Cody Willis and wife Robbie, his son Jeff Rattan and wife Holly, his daughter Amanda Gustafson and husband Brad, his daughter Kelly McClure, and his daughter-in-law Toni Rattan and fiancé Abel Torres, brother-in-law Jeff McGuffin and sister-in-law Laurel, brother-in-law James McGuffin, and sister-in-law Sandy McGuffin. He was a cherished Pawpaw to Jake, Tate, Annabelle, Cody, John, Aubree, Ty, Jack, Jaden, and Geena, and a great-grandfather to Tripp and Gentri. He shared love for his grandchildren-in-“love,” Tess, Isaiah, Haze, Lizzie, Jerred and Alyssa, Colton and Hayven, Hayzel, Stetson, Scarlett, and lots of nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents John and June Rattan, his son Jason Rattan, mother-in-law Mona McGuffin Tankersley, and brother-in-law John McGuffin. There won’t be a traditional funeral. In true Mike fashion, he simply said, “I want a party.” So, there will be a celebration of life held later down the line, when his loving wife and children are ready. Until then, we hold onto the laughter, the stories, and the memories of a truly unforgettable man.Like the ZZ Top lyrics he loved, Dad would say to his family and friends—but especially to his beloved wife:“You didn't have to love me like you did. But you did, but you did, and I thank you. You didn't have to love me like you did. But you did, but you did, and I thank you.” And we would all say exactly the same back to him. He will forever be in our hearts. If you feel the need to do something in Mike’s memory, he would want you to spend time with your family. Take your children or grandchildren hunting, fishing, or to a car show. Go to the casino and put $100 in your favorite slot machine. Tell the important people in your life how much you love them. Another option is to make a donation in Mike’s name to his favorite charities, St. Judes, Tunnels to Towers, or Shriners Hospital.
