Janet Brooks Cogburn, 80 of Stephenville, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at home with her loving husband beside her.
Funeral services for Janet will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 18th at First United Methodist Church, with Marilyn Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation with the Cogburn family will be at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Janet was born in Gorman, Texas, on May 2, 1945, to J. R. and Cloyce (Tolar) Brooks. Janet attended DeLeon schools. She married the love of her life, Billy Gene Cogburn in DeLeon on June 2, 1961.
Janet was a homemaker, and devoted mother to their three children. She also owned and managed Park Place Apts. Janet enjoyed attending any sporting event her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participated in. She loved cooking for all her family, friends, and anyone that was at her house. Many times, her table extended into the living room. She always worried there wouldn’t be enough food for everyone. There was never a time anyone went away hungry. We would often joke with her that we were waiting for the forty extra people to show up to eat everything.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, J. R. and Cloyce Brooks, and sister, Sue O’Neil.
Janet is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill; her children, Mark and wife Tammy Cogburn, Jana and husband Gary Sult, and Lana and husband Scott Stevens; grandchildren, Cody (Racheal) Stevens, Brandon (Victoria) Stevens, Josh (Carson) Sult, Brady Sult, Billy Cogburn (Keenan), and Brad Cogburn; great grandchildren, Kinsley, Brooklyn, Tealeigh, Braxton, and Denver; sisters Judy Fifer of Walnut Springs and Paula Procter of Stephenville; and countless friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Jeff Moore, for all his special care and concern. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorial contributions in Janet’s memory may be directed to the charity of your choice.
