Michael David Rigney, a cherished soul known for his gentle demeanor and interesting character, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on Christmas Day in 1964, in Greenwood, Indiana, Michael's life was a tapestry of dedication to his loved ones and passions that brought joy to those around him. He departed this world in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a valiant battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
Michael, affectionately known by his friends and family as simply Michael, was the beloved husband of Phyllis, with whom he shared a decade of love and companionship. He was a devoted son to his mother, Virginia Martin, and a proud father to his children, Michael Jr. and Melissa Skaggs. His two grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life, will miss their grandfather's friendly smile and gentle embrace.
An only child, Michael's work as a cook at the historic Artist Colony Inn in Nashville, Indiana, allowed him to express his creativity and love for culinary arts. His colleagues and patrons alike will remember him for the friendly atmosphere he created in the kitchen and the delicious meals he crafted with care.
Michael's interests were as unique and vibrant as his personality. He had an unwavering love for Halloween, a holiday that perfectly captured his spirit of fun. Fishing was another of Michael's joys, providing him moments of peace and reflection. Additionally, his passion for collecting Hot Wheels was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his youthful spirit and love for the simple pleasures in life.
As we bid farewell to Michael David Rigney, we celebrate the life of a man who touched the hearts of many. His spirit, characterized by kindness and a genuine interest in the world around him, will live on in the memories of his family, friends, and all who had the honor of crossing paths with him. Michael's journey through life was one of love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed, but the legacy of his gentle soul will endure forever.
