Michael Joseph Ryan SR.

Michael Joseph Ryan Sr., of Tyngsboro, MA, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Westford House Nursing Home, Westford, MA.
He was the beloved husband of Marguerite (Lally) Ryan, with whom he would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on November 17th, 2025.
Born and raised in Lowell, MA, Michael was the son of the late Robert Ryan and Molly (Davidson) Ryan.
He served with distinction for 27 years at the Billerica House of Corrections, retiring as Deputy Superintendent.
A lifelong athlete and sportsman, Michael was deeply involved in the boxing community. A former Golden Gloves boxer and professional fighter, he later became a respected amateur and professional referee. He was honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Golden Gloves and the American Boxing Union (ABU) for his dedication to the sport.
Outside the ring, Michael had a passion for horseback riding and cherished time spent with his horses, Sam and Jet. He was also proud to have completed two Boston Marathons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, William Ryan of Lowell, MA; his daughters, Mary Gail Martin and her husband Brian of Tyngsboro, MA, and Jacquelyn Ryan of Hudson, NH.
Michael was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Christopher Perrin and his wife Michelle, Jason Perrin, Joshua Perrin, Lauryn Cyr and her husband Derek, Jenna Stoessel and her husband John, Kasey Martin, Michael J. Ryan III, Molly Ryan, and Shane Ryan; and a proud great-grandfather to seven: Jack Perrin, Charlotte Cyr, Owen Cyr, Solomon Perrin, Isabel Perrin, Lola Perrin and Peyton Stoessel. He also survived by his sister-in-law Gertrude Costa and his brother-in-law Eugene Lally.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Michael Joseph Ryan Jr., as well as his brothers Donald, Thomas, Edward, and Robert Ryan; and his sisters Maureen Moldoch, Barbara Silva, Agnes Wojcukiewicz, and Sheila Kelley.
