Michael Thomas Safko was born on April 19, 1973. Many will remember his great sense of humor, love of music and movies, and passion for snacks, especially pretzels. He attended Rutgers University as a toddler in the 1970s when early research was being done on autism, and also attended Harbor School in Eatontown, New Jersey, and the Woods Services school in Pennsylvania.
Michael is survived by his sister, Rachel Safko, niece and nephew, Anastasia and Henry, and brother-in-law Adam, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles in the McCartney and Safko families. He also leaves behind many extraordinary friends at Dungarvin and Serv, who cared for him over the years.
He passed away on July 28, 2024 and was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie McCartney, who cared for him for much of his adult life, and father Michael Safko. Donations may be made to Pure Vision Arts, a studio for developmentally disabled and autistic artists in New York. We will miss Michael dearly and will carry his fighting spirit and joy close to our hearts.
