Michael Samsonow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Janowicz Family Funeral Home - Remus on Dec. 29, 2025.
Michael Henry Samsonow, age 71, of Stanwood, Michigan, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on December 27, 2025.

Michael was born on October 27, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to Stanislaw Samsonow and Helen Houldsworth Samsonow. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam era, where he worked as an electrician and engineer-roles that reflected both his skill and dedication. On July 7, 2020, he married the love of his life, Karen, with whom he shared laughter, companionship, and countless meaningful moments.

Michael was a man of deep kindness and a gentle heart. He loved blues music – he was drawn to the raw honesty of it, blues music tells real stories of life, love, hardship, and hope. He also enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and above all, the companionship of his beloved animals. His dog Ella, and cats Mabel and Jolene, along with his cherished grand dogs, brought him endless joy. He treasured time spent with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Euchre games and family game nights were among his favorite pastimes.

Adventurous by nature, Michael enjoyed traveling, especially to Saugatuck, Michigan. He loved the peaceful beauty of Lake Michigan, the fresh air, and slower pace that allowed time to simply breathe, reflect, and enjoy the moments. Saugatuck offered Michael everything he cherished – nature, tranquility and sense of freedom. Anyone who spent time there can understand why Michael was drawn to it, and why he returned whenever he could.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Samsonow; his children Richard and Leigh-Ann DeVore, John Samsonow, Nicholas (Stephanie) Samsanow, Karl Heinrich, Brian Heinrich and Stephen (Jennifer) Heinrich; his grandchildren Dale (Kaitlyn) DeVore, Grey DeVore, Caitlyn Samsonow, and Ezra Samsonow, and his great-grandchild Beckett DeVore, his sisters Maria (Jeff) Klenk and Christine Brown; his mother-in-law Elizabeth Thompson; and his cherished nieces and nephews Joe (Tracie) Klenk, David (Jessica) Klenk, Michelle (Dan) Cohen and Nathan Brown. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He adored his entire family.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Ackley.

He will be terribly missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Arch Animal Rescue or Disabled Veterans Services.

Funeral Services for Michael will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Father Michael Alber will service as Celebrant. All services will be held at Janowicz Family Funeral Home, located at 469 W. Wheatland Ave., Remus, Michigan 49340. A luncheon will follow the service.
