Michael Gordon Sanders, 60, of Davis Creek in Charleston, WV, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends.
Mike was born February 3, 1964, to Mack and Joyce Sanders, attended George Washington High School, joined the U.S. Navy in 1982, and retired from the City of South Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard and Freda Hoffman; parents, Mack and Joyce Sanders; sister, Robin Schultz, and father-in-law and best friend, Bill Blake.
Michael is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Stephanie Sanders; children, Jerusha Crowder, Zachary Sanders and Justin Vannatter; grandchildren, Cameron Michael, Makenna Joy, Kade Zayan, Jaxson Michael and Oaklee Kayce; twin brother, Mickey Sanders; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins that held a special place in his heart. Also surviving are his caretakers, sister-in-law Robin Stump and nurse Amanda Hackney.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling, his fur babies and mostly spending time with his grandbabies.
Special thanks to Pulmonary Associates and Dunbar Medical for their many years of care and to the knowledgeable nurses and doctors at WVU Medicine – Thomas Memorial Hospital for their compassion during the last hours of his life.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, WV, with Pastor Frank Lawson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in Michael's name, to Ronald McDonald House, 1500 17th Street, Huntington, WV 25701.
