Michael Santiago Obituary

Michael Santiago, a devoted Army soldier, dog lover, and fitness advocate, passed away leaving behind a rich legacy of laughter, wisdom, and compassion.

Born in the Bronx, New York, to Lisandra Padilla and Lemuel Santiago, Michael lived a life defined by service, dedication, and heart. He graduated from Tuckahoe High School in 2006, where he proudly played on the varsity football team as a defensive lineman. His passion for helping others began early, as he volunteered as a firefighter with the Eastchester Fire Department. Later, he pursued additional education and became a certified dietitian, merging his commitment to health and service into a lifelong passion.

In 2010, Michael enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably until 2016 while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his military career, he was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division, Michael served in the Special Forces and Global Response Force, where he excelled as a Staff Sergeant, Jump Master, Battalion Leader for the 11B Infantry, and Rifle Squad Leader. His courage, discipline, and leadership earned him numerous honors for his bravery and sacrifice in service to his country.

An avid fitness enthusiast and devoted dog lover, Michael found harmony between these passions—seeing both as pathways to discipline, balance, and joy. He was especially proud of adopting and caring for rescue dogs, who brought him companionship and peace.

After years of service, Michael relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he continued his commitment to protecting and serving others as an officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. His strong sense of justice, loyalty, and compassion made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Lisandra Padilla and Richard Torrens; his siblings, Elizabeth Gonzalez Santiago (Jose) and Nicholas Lian; his niece, Zoe Gonzalez; his aunts and uncles, Carlos Padilla (Jackie), Michael Padilla (Damaris), and Carmen B. Padilla. He is also survived by many cousins and dear friends who cherished him deeply.

Michael’s life was a testament to courage, compassion, and integrity. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for the wisdom he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely.
