Michael Joseph "Mike" Scala, 87, entered eternal rest on Sunday December 22, 2024.
He was born on June 24, 1937 in Warren, the youngest of nine children born to Mike and Isabella (Olivieri) Scala.
After graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in January 1956, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served three years in the 3rd U.S. Infantry, aka the "Old Guard", which serves as the army's official ceremonial unit and escort to the president. Upon returning to Warren from the army, Michael became employed at Packard Electric as a wire inspector, where he retired from in 1999 after 35 years of employment.
Michael loved a sunny, warm day where he could enjoy his hobbies: playing tennis with his pals, going for a long bike ride, relaxing in his pool, doing yardwork, or reading the newspaper at the lake. He spent a lot of time over the decades at the Y.M.C.A. playing basketball, running, and swimming, where he also made a lot of lifelong friends. He closely followed all Cleveland sports teams and The Ohio State Buckeyes and was a season ticket holder for Warren G. Harding football and basketball teams for many years. He was known for always being kind, patient, easy going and very dedicated to any responsibility he took on.
Cherished memories of Michael will live on with his wife of 60 years Linda (Moore) who he married on August 22, 1964; daughters Maria Oswald (Thomas), Andrea Scala (Brett Jackson), and Natalie Scala (Daniel Drummond); grandchildren Jessica Brocious (Jesse), Emily Oswald, Noel and Clare Jackson; great-grandchildren Patrick and Ethan Brocious; sister Josephine Herron of Santa Monica, CA; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Michael was preceded in death by siblings Michelina "Nellie" Guzan, Letitia Terzan, Anthony "Tony", Sebastian "Sam", James, John, and Paul, and his beloved canine companions him and Linda had throughout their marriage (Patsy, Daisy, Maggie, Squid, and Sadie).
A private memorial was held on December 30 at Peter Rossi & Son, followed by graveside service at St. Mary's Cemetery, where military honors were performed.
Donations to celebrate Michael's life can be made in his memory to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County (AWL) on their website, awlrescueme.com.
