He is survived by his devoted wife, Marsha Schaal, his daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Schrubbe, his son-in-law, Kristofer Schrubbe, and his cherished grandchildren, Elise Schrubbe and Kate Schrubbe.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Michael (Mike) led a remarkable life marked by adventure and passion. He married the love of his life, Marsha, on March 24, 1973, and together they embarked on a journey that took them from their hometown to Naperville, Illinois, in 1983.
His professional career was distinguished by his leadership in the trucking industry and serving as the General Manager/President of Wanxiang America Corporation. His dedication and expertise left an indelible mark on the industry.
Michael (Mike) embraced every adventure with open arms. A seasoned traveler, he left no corner unexplored, visiting over 10 countries and many states in the U.S. Among his most cherished experiences was the 2 years he spent in Nigeria with the Peace Corps. He cherished spending time at Big Blue Lake with his family, and for over three decades, he, Marsha, family, and their friends reveled in the sunny delights of Zihuantanejo, Mexico.
His love for cars was unparalleled, particularly his fondness for roadsters, which brought him immense joy throughout his life. He loved sharing this passion with his Granddaughters. Michael's spirit of generosity, infectious laughter, and unwavering determination were admired by all who knew him. He lived life on his own terms, with courage and tenacity that inspired those around him. He was a unique and strong individual who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. For those who truly knew him he was their friend for always.
In addition to his wife, daughter, granddaughters, and son in law, Michael (Mike) leaves behind his basenji dog, Hugo, who stayed faithfully by his side until the end. Mike, Dad, and Grandfather, leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Schaal, and his parents, Ruth and Donald Schaal, of Toledo, Ohio, as well as his sister, Toni Leith.
Though he may have left this world, Michael's (Mike's) spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace.
