Michael A. Schannen, 74, formerly of Fort Wayne, was called to his heavenly home on December 15, 2025, in Greenfield, IN.
Michael was the cherished only child of Ralph and Helen Schannen of Fort Wayne, Indiana. A proud alumnus of Indiana University, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in accounting, following in his father's professional footsteps. Michael embraced life with a spirit of adventure, traveling to numerous destinations around the world.
From a young age, Michael shared a deep passion for golf with his parents, enjoying the game throughout his life. His love for sports extended to baseball, where he found joy in coaching his son and mentoring young athletes in local little league programs. Additionally, his enthusiasm for ice hockey and being a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins inspired his son’s dream to play the sport, strengthening their bond.
Throughout his life, Michael found solace and companionship in his beloved dogs, particularly his late dog, Shadow, whose unconditional love illuminated his path.
He is survived by his son, Curtis Schannen, and daughter-in-law, Ashley, as well as three grandchildren: Cameron Wayne Schannen, Cole Ryan Schannen, and Kayden James Powers, all of New Palestine, Indiana.
Michael's bright smile, infectious laughter, and the comfort he offered to others in their times of need will forever be remembered. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and love that will continue to touch the lives of those who knew him.
A memorial gathering will be held in Greenwood, IN, on December 29th at Indiana Funeral Care, from 11 AM to 2 PM.
