Michael E. Scott, 58, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away June 30, 2025, at his home. He was born July 11, 1966, in Fremont, NE to Augie Castillo and Pamela Phillipe.
From a young age, he loved sports and competition. He played baseball, football and wrestled while growing up. He loved following and cheering on his Nebraska Cornhuskers. His love for the Cornhuskers ran deep in his family and he passed that on to his children. This love of sport and competition was continued into his adult years where he played Rugby with the Marines, Overseas in Portugal, Lake County Gladiators, eventually coaching the Lake County Yotes. He enjoyed playing Steel-Tip Darts which he introduced to his son and eventually formed a bond in friendly competition.
When Mike was 19, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for 5 years. He was stationed in Hawaii, where he deployed to Okinawa and the Philippines. He then transferred to Parris Island, S.C. While at Parris Island, he met his wife Lisa and they were married on September 7, 1991. They had two children together, Alex Scott and Megan Driskill. While living in Portugal, Mike and the family travelled around Europe to Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, England, and the Netherlands. Mike loved the time he spent travelling with his family. They were some of his fondest memories.
He worked at Abbott for 10 years and was looking forward to early retirement to spend more time with his family. He looked forward to having the time to watch his grandson, Chase Scott, at his basketball games and the opportunity to spend more time watching his granddaughter, Piper Driskill, grow.
Michael is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lisa Scott, his mother Pamela (Don) Spence, his father Augie (Jean) Castillo, his children Alexander (Arielle) Scott and Megan (Daniel) Driskill, and his grandchildren Chase Scott and Piper Driskill. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Arlys and Bud Oeltjen, grandfather Estel Phillipe, and step-father Robert Scott.
A memorial visitation is scheduled for July 7, 2025, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 6pm until 8pm. Interment will be held privately. For more information log onto www.strangfuneral.org or contact (847)223-8122.

In Loving Memory of Mike Scott

We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of our dear colleague and friend, Mike Scott. At just 58, his time with us was far too short, but the impact he made will be felt for years to come.

Mike was more than just a coworker-he was a genuinely kind and thoughtful human being. His warmth, integrity, and unwavering positivity made our workplace brighter and our lives better. He was always ready with a helping hand, a word of encouragement, or a good laugh when we needed it most.

We will miss his presence, his wisdom, and his friendship dearly. Please know that our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with you during this incredibly difficult time. Mike´s legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

My sincerest condolences to Mike´s family. Mike really made a lasting impression on me in the way he carried himself, his kindness and his sincere friendship. Mike would say "Roll Tide" to me and I´d always respond with a "Go Big Red". I´ll never forget him and will always root for his Huskers. Thank you Jesus for such a wonderful man.

My "sincere sympathy" to you, Lisa, Alex, and Megan and to the rest of the Scott family. My daughter Brenda graduated with Mike from FHS in 1984. She enjoyed seeing him again at last class reunion. Pam and I have been friends for many years. I have good memories of Mike and the family's visits back to Fremont. Mike always had a kind heart towards everyone. I do remember that Mike made the BEST homemade lasagna!!!
My prayers are with the Scott family during these hard times right now. RIP Mike!

Mike was trully a kind person who will be deeply missed. He welcomed my husband, into the rugby team, helping us find friendship and community when we first moved to the U.S. I´ll always remember our chats about rugby and Spain and the warmth he brought to every conversation. The office feels emptier without him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
