Michael J. Sellmer, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Baptist Louisville. He was born on March 18, 1933, to the late Eugene and Nola Sellmer in Clark County, IN.
Michael honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to his work as a machinist at Reynolds Metals. A devout man of faith, Michael was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville in his younger years and later became a parishioner at St. Anthony Catholic Church. In the past, he was an active member of the Men's Club at St. Anthony, serving as President for a number of years, and generously volunteered his time as a cook at the Franciscan Kitchen in Louisville, Kentucky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Lois Sellmer; daughters Tammy Moakler (Paul) of Floyds Knobs, IN, and Sheri Hammons (Curtis) of Pendleton, KY; grandchildren Tory Moakler, Bryan Moakler, Lyera Hammons, Loni Hammons, and Lucas Hammons; along with several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother Harry Sellmer, sisters Betty Gilpin, Shirley Cunningham, and Patricia Ann Ahern.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at the Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or The Franciscan Kitchen- Louisville.
