Michael Shapiro Obituary

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War with the 159th Medical Detachment (Helicopter Ambulance). During his military service, he received several service awards, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Aircraft Crewman Badge. He loved his family tremendously, especially his grandchildren who were the gems of his life. Michael had a huge heart and would do anything for anybody, and he loved telling jokes that sometimes left us wondering.
A private graveside burial with full Military Honors will be held at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien.
Family and friends are encouraged to post a photo, comment or memory on Michael's Tribute Wall. His family will take great comfort in the messages shared.
