Michael G. Sheffield, a beloved figure in our community, was born on September 15, 1951, in Lufkin, Texas, and departed this life on February 10, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas. He was 73 years old.
Michael dedicated his career as a Union Electrician with the Local #479, where, throughout his tenure, he held several leadership positions within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #479, illustrating his commitment to his profession and providing guidance to many in the field. For 25 years, he served in the Maintenance Department of the Nederland Independent School District.
Michael cherished his role as a family man, always placing family first. He was the loving husband of Cathy Sheffield for 48 wonderful years. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership. He was a proud father to his son, David Ron Sheffield, and his daughter-in-law, Shelly, who reside in Magnolia, Texas. Michael also held deep affection for his brother, Lew Clayton Sheffield and his wife, Liz, of Nederland, Texas. Additionally, he was a devoted brother-in-law to Bill Carswell and his wife, Debbie, of Kyle, Texas. A doting grandfather, he took immense pride in his grandson, Garrison Sheffield. Michael is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember his warmth and kindness.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was known for his vibrant personality. He genuinely loved people, never meeting a stranger. Michael had a unique passion for playing Santa Claus, earning him the affectionate nickname "Santa Mike." Santa loved his special assistant Elf Ms. Diana Meridith. He was a proud member of Lone Star Santa and brought joy to countless children and families during the holiday season.
A skilled photographer and videographer, Michael also owned Sheffield Productions, where he mentored numerous students in the art of photography. His creative talents led him to film over 400 weddings and capture the essence of local events such as Nederland parades, recitals, pageants, youth football games, and band competitions. Notably, he provided video coverage for Nederland Football for two decades, further solidifying his legacy within the community.
Michael was a faithful and dedicated member of Central Baptist Church in Port Neches, where people could always count on him to make them smile.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Frances Sheffield, who instilled in him values that he carried throughout his life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas, 77627. Following the funeral service, Michael will be remembered with a graveside service at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Michael G. Sheffield leaves behind a legacy of love, mentorship, and community service. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
