Michael F. Shields, age 75 of Melancthon Creek, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday,
June 29, 2023. He was born on March 15, 1948 to Gerald F. and Florence J. (Escher) Shields.
He was united in marriage August 23, 1969 with Sharon S. Leak and together they farmed all of their
working years. In addition to working the Shields family farm his whole life Mike also worked for Myers
Supper Club, drove milk trucks for Bob Coy, Alcam, Rockweillers and Grande, sold seed for Super Crost
and Jacques, worked at Foremost Farms, was a meter-reader for Richland Electric Cooperative, and
delivered the Shopping News and the Sunday edition of the Wisconsin State Journal.
A farmer through and through, Mike's main hobby was collecting Allis-Chalmers memorabilia. He also
collected belt buckles.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Shields of Melancthon Creek; a son, Peter (Molly) Shields
of Tomah, WI; grandchildren John, Charles, Benjamin, and Emily Shields; as well as aunts, uncles, and
numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Florence Shields; a son, Gerry F. Shields; and his
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Leila Leak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11:30 A.M. at St. Mary Assumption
Catholic Church. Monsignor Roger Scheckel will officiate, with burial in the St. Patrick's Catholic
Cemetery in Melancthon Creek at 2:15 P.M.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Stafford Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M.
and again on Friday at the church from 10:30 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials
may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Melancthon Creek.
Online condolences available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com. The Stafford Funeral
Home in Richland Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
