Michael Dean Slate, age 69, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the University of Missouri Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 26, 1956, in Boone County, Missouri, the son of Robert and Betty (Lewis) Slate.
He attended Hickman High School in Columbia. He married Melva Rice. They were married for 13 years and had 2 boys, Michael and Steven, from that union. He then married Teri Samuels, and they were married for 22 years and remained friends.
Mike was a Flooring Installer his entire life, working for the family business, owning his own business for a while. He also worked as an assistant manager of a bowling alley and bar, Hy-Vee and was a merchandiser for Boone Distributing.
Mike loved all kinds of sports. He played basketball, softball, pool, and golf over the years. He was also a bowler and enjoyed fishing. He loved animals, especially his dogs.
He is survived by his sons: Michael L. Slate (Courtney) of Columbia, Steven L. Slate of Hallsville; brother Carl (Jackie) Slate of Columbia; sisters: Mary Jean "Jeannie" Miles and Jennifer Slate of Columbia; grandchildren: Asher and Quinnly Slate; 5 nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews, with one on the way and 5 great-great nieces and nephews; his ex-wives: Melva Rice-Slate and Teri Samuels-Slate.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; sister Maria Ann Slate and brother Robert "Robbie" Slate.
