Michael Francis Smith, age 60, of North Ridgeville passed away at Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 18 following a valiant 5-year battle with lung cancer.
Mike was a Plant Operator in the Maintenance Department of Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital. He worked for more than 40 years for local hospitals, including Cleveland Clinic Fairview and Lakewood Hospital.
Mike was born on May 13, 1961 in Cleveland to Owen P. and Margaret M. (Viancourt) Smith prior to moving to Medina County where he graduated from Cloverleaf High School. He earned an Associate's Degree from the West Side Institute of Technology and later achieved certifications in heating and air conditioning, was an accredited boiler operator and was a licensed electrician.
Surviving are his loving wife of 29-years, Amy Zellen-Smith and three children: Hope, Neal and Casey all of North Ridgeville. He also leaves behind three brothers, Brian (Carla) of Wadsworth, Patrick (Tamara) of Cortland and Dennis (Heather) of Maineville as well as two sisters, Maggie (Dave) Kelch of Grafton and Mary Schlechty of Seattle, WA. He had numerous nieces, nephews and friends including close friends Mallory and Mary Jarrous.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Owen P. Smith, Jr.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36626 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville where services will be held 10 AM Wednesday. (Masks are required) Chaplin Al Brazynetz will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Michael's memory in care of the family for his children's education.
