Michael David Snodgrass of St. Charles, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024
Mike is survived by his loving wife Susan Lynn Snodgrass nee Daniel, Daughter Christine (Nick) Heger, Grandchildren Jude Kilgore, Elijah Heger.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Snodgrass, Gladys Farnbach nee Payne.
Mike had an infectious smile and a twinkle in his eyes that made you wonder what was up. He loved getting to know people and learning their stories. He could find common ground with anyone he met and was a good friend to those he enjoyed spending time with. Mike was a direct person and had a low tolerance for anyone that thought they were better than others. He stood up for himself and for his beliefs in no uncertain terms.
Mike loved learning new things and trying new hobbies. He and his father, Bill, did a lot of fishing and hunting is his youth and he continued fishing the rest of his life.
Mike was a professional musician that played and recorded locally as well as on national tours. He had a rich tenor singing voice and loved great harmonies. He's best known for his guitar playing and could play any style he took an interest in learning. One of his favorite things was encouraging new players to find their own musical voice. He was always working on ways to improve his playing and delivery. Mike enjoyed adding twists and humor to classics and introducing people to hidden musical gems.
Mike started playing out with his father's band as a drummer at 13 and then played bass which he actually preferred to guitar. Mike would noodle on a guitar for hours just to figure out a part that he liked. He rarely played a song like the record and loved to stretch tunes in new directions.
Mike took a lot of pride in family especially his daughter Christine and grandsons Jude and Elijah. He enjoyed spending time with the family when he could and tried to make up for when work or his health kept him from milestone events in their lives. Mike was married for 30 years Susan who he called the love of his life.
Mike was raised in the teachings of the Presbyterian church and continued to build on his faith especially during the long illness at the end of his life. He said he was right with the Lord for when his time came.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, bandmate, cousin, brother-in-law, son-in-law and friend. He will be missed by all that knew him.

I've known Mike since Junior High. One of a kind person with a good heart and wonderful talent. WE only got to play out together once, but what a great time it was. Rest in peace Mike, and put in a good word for me for when I get there.

Mike demonstrated a beautiful combination of monster talent and humble heart -- even as the band's weakest link, I was treated with respect and kindness by this dear gent.

I don't feel I'm able to articulate my affection for Mike and the significant loss I feel learning of his passing. Our relationship doesn't date back as far as I'm sure it does with others. We met in 1995 when I first relocated back to St. Louis for a while. He was playing at a club off the 44 frwy on Kings highway (I think). I was so impressed with his playing, and I told him so. In the years that followed we played several gigs together and developed a special bond that never diminished. I always referred to him as my favorite guitar player. And anyone who's heard Mike play would understand why. When you're the other guitar player on a gig with Mike, it's best you take your solo first, because there was nothing left to add once he played. Even with 2000 miles between us and only seeing each other every couple of years, I don't feel life will be the same with him gone. I feel confident he left us knowing what our friendship meant. I love you were always the last words we'd speak. And I'm so glad we did. I encourage everyone not to let another day go by without telling the people you care about what they mean to you. The ultimate comfort is knowing Mike had a personal relationship with God, therefore, we will meet again. God eagerly awaits and welcomes those who seek him. No one is promised tomorrow.

Mike, knowing you for 40 years or so, I can say that you were a very special person in character. And one awesome lead guitar picker and very good singer. It was an honor to know you. You will be missed by many. RIP Mike.
