STEARNS, Michael J. – of Flint, age 62, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral home in Clio. Kim Christensen officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3PM until 8PM, and on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 1PM. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. To keep things as Mike would have wanted, please come dressed in your most relaxed attire-be it racing shirts, Harley gear, or whatever makes you feel most at ease. If you arrive in a suit and tie, please be ready for a lighthearted nudge towards the door.
Michael was born February 6, 1962, in Flint, Michigan, to Marvin and Vivian (Roberts) Stearns. He graduated from Davison High School with the class of 1980. Mike married Lisa Durantini on March 19, 1988, in Oxford, Michigan, and they enjoyed 36 happy years together. He began his career at M-15 Garage and later seized the opportunity to make it his own, renaming it Stearns M-15 Garage. For over 25 years, he ran his business with great success. A true kid at heart, Mike loved riding his Harley and immersing himself in the world of racing. His contributions to the racing community were significant. He was well known for his unparalleled skill when it came to carburetors – no one could rebuild them like Mike, and he helped so many people over the years. You would find him fixing random guys' carburetors from Kinross, Michigan, to New Smyrna, Florida. Though he could be a challenge to get along with, those who earned his trust discovered a loyal and honest friend for life. Above all, Mike's greatest pride and joy was his grandchildren, and he loved them with all his heart.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Lisa Stearns; Daughter, Alicia Durantini; Son, Christopher (Courtney) Stearns; Bonus sons: Lonnie Saumier, and Jon Beach; 6 grandchildren: Isaac, Cienna, Jayden, Jordan, little best friend – Addisyn, and Christopher "CJ"; Father, Marvin (Joyce) Stearns; Mother, Vivian (Bill) Otis; Siblings: Therese (Rod) Church, Marvin (Debbi) Stearns, and Cathy Wheeler; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Mike was preceded in death by: Daughter, Sarah Bush; Grandparents, Bill and Aline Johnson; Uncles: Bob and Bud, and his aunt, Fran.
