It is with deep love and sadness that we had to say goodbye to our dearly loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, MICHAEL JOE TALBOT. On December 26, 2024, at 83, Michael Joe Talbot answered the call home from his earthly journey.
He was born October 2, 1941, in Arimo, Idaho to William Barkman (Bart) and Theresa Rose Berlin
Talbot. In 1958 he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in South Dakota and French Morocco, receiving an honorable discharge in 1962. One of his favorite assignments was on horseback, rounding up cows on a Morocco Air Force runway.
MJ graduated from Weber State University, with a Bachelor of Science, Major: Art, Degree, June 6, 1970, while also working as a Brakeman/Conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1964 until his retirement January 2002.
On April 29, 1972, he married his best friend, Janet Maw. February 14, 1973, Mike & Janet were Blessed with the arrival of their sons, Calvin W. & John D. Talbot Michael, a natural born artist, craftsman, outdoorsman and expert packer, who loved the old west, enjoyed crafting mule gear out of leather and canvas the way the old timers did it.
A perfectionist, striving for excellence that developed into his legacy of "Old West" themed oil paintings, and pack gear designed and made by him, is a testament to his authenticity. His artwork was featured in the Utah Fish and Game Proclamation, the local newspaper, and the November 1985 issue of Western Horseman magazine. In 2002 he self-published a book on packing titled "Mules, Diamonds & Dutch Ovens".
Michael loved his family, friends, the mules he rode, and packed, plus hunting, fishing, and
the Rocky Mountains. Many unforgettable memories were created as he, with his pack string of mules, led friends and family through the beautiful, breath-taking high Uintah Mountains, Yellowstone, Wind River and Salmon River Mountain Ranges. He never tired of the open sky and mountain peace.
MJ was a unique, one-of-a-kind, self-made man. He was loving, loyal, and stubborn like the mules he loved! His presence and unique sense of humor will be missed, but his spirit will live on as an anchor for his children and grandchildren. And so, he has left this life's journey and gone forth to join friends and family waiting with open arms to welcome him home.
A husband, a dad, a grandpa, a brother, an uncle, and a friend, Michael Joe Talbot, we love
you.
He wishes "The Best of The West" and "Happy Trails" to his packing buddies and best friends, William (Chief Wakara) Hanson, Jim Blanchard and Scott Van Leeuwen.
Michael was a member of the Latter-Day Saints, Wilson 4th Ward, Ogden Utah West Stake. He joined the Latter-Day Saints Church June 6, 1992, after making a comment that he would only listen to a Montana cowboy missionary, who mysteriously showed up on his doorstep a
week later.
The family sincerely thanks the incredibly special Angels-On-Earth at Atlas Homecare & Hospice, with special thanks to Josh Clarke, Tyler Hess, and Ronal Roby, for their extraordinary compassionate support throughout this end-of-life journey. The family also thanks everyone at Premier Funeral Services, with special thanks to Jennifer Estes, Funeral Director.
In lieu of flowers, Michael requested that you enjoy a steak at Jeremiah's and tip the waitress
well.
