It is with extreme sorrow that the family of Michael Wells announces his sudden passing on May 3, 2024.   Mike had many interests but was integrally involved in the health and welfare of his many friends.  His kindness, generosity and big heart was well known.  Born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1965 he was part of the Indiana community since 1970.  He was educated in the Perry Township School System.   He graduated from Perry Meridian High School in 1983.  Except for a two-year period where he attended Robinson School in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

Upon graduation Mike joined Corsi Cabinets, which dovetailed nicely with Mike’s interest in woodworking and architecture.  In 1989 he gladly joined the team at Eli Lilly and Company and just celebrated 35 years with the company, initially as an equipment Maintenance Operator for 12 years and on the Turbo 4 Pen Line for 3 years.  Mike was a key member of Lilly Fire Rescue Group for 14 years and lastly, but not least, immersed himself in the LTC Utilities Team in 2018, becoming an integral part of the band of brothers.

Mike leaves behind his son Sam, his daughter Sydney, his brother Doug (Betsy), his sister Vicki Perkins (Frank), his mother Pat Stafford, his dad Don Stafford (Carol) and his cousin, Tammy Parsons (Claud) in North Carolina.  Additionally, he has numerous nieces and nephews, Jeremiah Wells (Brittany), Haley Wells (Aubrey, Macklin), and Neal Wells (Amanda, Cecilia, Lucas). In addition, Mike had extended family in Florida, Michigan and Indiana.   His family also included a stepsister and a stepbrother in Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Von and Ruth Rutherford of Hamilton, Ohio and Ft. Myers, Florida and Ruby and Ed Stafford of Battle Creek, Michigan and his Aunt Mimi, Michele (Rutherford) Oltmann of Cape Coral, Florida.

Mike played baseball for Edgewood Little League and for Robinson School.  He was an excellent bowler and overachieving golfer.  Later in life, he developed an avid interest in scuba diving. He loved attending Pacers games and attended games regularly.

Mike’s mom called him a big kid but, the truth of the matter was, that he was a big kid with an even bigger heart that he gladly shared with all that knew him.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Mike’s favorite charity, St. Jude.

Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Service from 1:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana.
