Michalena “Micki” Medzela Krupa, 95, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 10, 1929, in Manchester, New Hampshire, Micki was the daughter of Joseph and Lena Medzela. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Emil Krupa.
Micki was a proud graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she was also a devoted member of the Chi Omega sorority. Early in her career, she worked as a social director at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. A creative and entrepreneurial spirit, she opened a contemporary mid-century modern housewares and art store in Manchester. After relocating to Hamden, Connecticut, she raised her family while working as a social worker for the City of New Haven.
Micki’s passion for the arts defined much of her life. A talented jeweler specializing in gold and silver, she became a juried member of the League of Connecticut Craftsmen. Later in life, she explored photography and was a founding member of the Ash Street Group. Her love of contemporary art and design remained constant throughout her years.
She also worked as a real estate agent in New Haven and was a dedicated swimmer who cherished her time at the local YMCA. Deeply proud of her Polish heritage, Micki traveled to Poland to visit relatives, embraced Polish cuisine, and brought the traditions of her ancestry into her home—where there was always a lounging cat or two.
In 2005, Micki and Emil retired to their hometown of Manchester, NH. For the past five years, she enjoyed the peaceful rhythms of farm life with her daughter and son-in-law in Lee, NH.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hutton and husband John of Lee, NH; her son, Kyle Krupa and wife Agnieszka of Hartford, CT; and her beloved sister, Mary Ann Medzela of Stratham, NH. Micki also leaves behind several nephews, many cousins, and was predeceased by her cherished niece, Nancy Sartini of North Haven, CT.
