Micheal Var Mortensen passed away at home on April 27, 2022. He was born on September 17, 1945 in Safford, Arizona and was the second son of Mancel Var Mortensen and Dovetta Farnsworth.
He grew up in Silver City, New Mexico and graduated from Silver City High School in 1962. He was best known for his beautiful voice; singing in school, church, and community choirs throughout his life. He went to Brigham Young University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Sociology and Spanish. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1965 to 1967 in Peru and Columbia. He was one of the first four missionaries to open Columbia to missionary work for the church.
He met Yvonne Williams at BYU and they were married for time and eternity in the Oakland California Temple on June 26, 1970. They welcomed 8 children into their home: Michelle, Dane, Christopher (Leslie), Nichole (Brian), Lance, Jesse (Erin), Rachel, and Rene. He spent most of his working years as a teacher, teaching Spanish and history. He also coached volleyball and tennis. He loved music; to listen to him sing was like listening to an angel! He loved nature! He loved to hike, camp, fish, hunt and especially enjoyed taking pictures of all of the beautiful landscapes around him. He also enjoyed growing a garden and sharing his produce with everyone around him. He loved serving the Lord and his fellow men in any way he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers (Bart & Byron), a son (Lance), and 1 granddaughter (Kayla Rose). He is survived by his wife, 10 children and in-laws, and 13 grandchildren, and 4 brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Riverdale 2nd Ward, 5500 S. 1175 W., Riverdale, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 at the same location. Interment will be in the Hooper Cemetery.
