Michele Newell
1956-2023
Michele Newell entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, November 28 in Mineola, NY at 67 years old.
Michele Renee Williams Newell was born on March 17, 1956 to her parents George Williams and Cynthia Dennis. They lived in Brooklyn, NY until she was 3 years old, when they moved to Uniondale. Michele attended schools in Uniondale, and went on to graduate from Uniondale High School. Michele and her family were active in their community and in the local 4H club. She completed 2 years at Nassau Community College and obtained a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Oneonta, all while working her way through college at the Uniondale Library and Sears in Hicksville.
After graduation she worked at Alexander's Department Store, where she met her future husband, Tom. They got married in July 1982 and added to their family two years later with the birth of their daughter, Jennifer. Six years later they were blessed with their son, Brandon. Michele went above and beyond to ensure her children were cared for, supported, and loved in every part of their lives. Michele's role as a mom was one she did not take lightly. She made it her mission to be a positive presence in Jenn and Bran's life by serving on the Uniondale Police Athletic League, the Parent Teachers Association at their elementary and middle schools, and befriending the parents of the close friends they made. There was never a concert, sporting event, or meeting she would miss for her kids.
While working as a valued employee to assist students at LIU Post for over ten years, Michele always made time to help others and serve the community. She was a longtime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt, and actively volunteered in the children's nursery and with the Feed My Sheep Ministry. She also found time to serve on the Greater Uniondale Action Committee Coalition. She was always willing to volunteer her time or help in whatever way she could, whether it was through fundraising, organizing events, or offering rides.
Michele is survived by her husband, Thomas Newell; her children, Jennifer Dukes and Brandon Newell; her son-in-law, Jeremiah Dukes; her daughter-in-law, Kayla Newell; her siblings, Cheryl Meggett and Crystal Williams; and her grandchildren Matthew Dukes and James Dukes; and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks those interested to donate to the Long Island Alzheimer's & Dementia Center. Please donate at tinyurl.com/MNewellMemorial or in person at the service and indicate you would like to tribute the donation to Michele Newell.
