Michelle Lyn Hayes, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on July 20, 2025, in Dover, Delaware. She was born on October 29, 1971, in Syracuse, New York, and was 53 years old.
Michelle was a beloved daughter, a loving sister, a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, and a proud "Nanny" to her grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from caring for her family and creating a home filled with love.
She is survived by her husband Stephen who was also her best friend and soul mate; her daughters, Luna, Casey, and Allison; her grandchildren, Noah and Anastasia; her cherished dogs, Clifford and Bandit; her parents, James and Jane Palmteer; her brother, Bill (Jo) Palmteer; and many other extended relatives who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her loving grandparents, Wesley and Joyce Flynn, William and Shirley Palmteer, and her loyal companion, Gizmo, who never left her heart. We find peace in knowing she is now reunited with them - free from pain, held in eternal love.
As a military wife, Michelle embraced the challenges and rewards that came with supporting her husband's service. She loved traveling the world with her family. No matter where duty called, she created a home filled with comfort and care, becoming the steady heart of her family. Her role as a homemaker, wife and mother was one she carried with pride and purpose.
Michelle found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time with her family! She also loved spending time in the water - the pool was her happy place. She enjoyed crafting, decorating, and sharing creative moments with her grandchildren. She also found peace in quiet moments, often with a good book in hand and her pets nearby.
As we say goodbye to Michelle, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman deeply loved. Her memory will continue to guide and inspire all those she leaves behind. Her story does not end here - it carries on in every life she touched, and in the love that lives on through her family.
Her family will hold a private gathering at their home in Dover. A public celebration of life will take place at a later date in her hometown of Syracuse, New York - where her journey began, and where she will be lovingly remembered.
