Michelle Jeanine Moretz, 54, of Sinking Spring, passed away on October 31, 2025 after a three year and eight month courageous battle against Glioblastoma cancer.
She was born in Reading and was the daughter of Charles R. and Cheryl S. Moretz, of Sinking Spring. She is survived by her parents, her son, Timothy C. Moretz and his wife, Krista, of Mount Joy, and her granddaughters, Briella and Taylor. Also surviving are her cousins, Marie Dischinat, of Nazareth, William Moretz, of Bethlehem, Kevin and Sharleen Reis, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kristine Craig, husband and children, of Columbia, SC.
Michelle was an assistant principal at Northeast Reading Jr. High School and Central Jr. High School since 2016. Prior to that, she was assistant principal at Lancaster Vocational High School and previously Hand Middle School, teaching gifted education along with facilitating curriculum applications with staff and administrators.
At the recommendation of her Temple professors, she planned to pursue her PhD, but illness curtailed it. She earned a Director Certificate at Temple University, Principal Certification, Master's and Bachelor's at Millersville University with high academic achievement. Active in college organizations, she was also secretary of Sigma Phi Fraternity and involved in alumni activities.
Michelle was bright academically, a quick thinker, avid reader, and loved games and movies. Always thinking out of the box, she came up with creative educational applications. A team advocate, she engaged her staff proactively applying academic and social activities in a positive and highly productive environment. She listened attentively, solved issues with students, parents, and staff in a fair and objective approach. People were drawn to her outgoing personality, kindness, and dry sense of humor and consciousness.
Additionally, Michelle was awarded by the PTA's and teachers the Top Student Award at 13th and Union Elementary, Northeast Jr. High School and was in the top 10% of her class at Reading High School. She was involved in all types of clubs during her school years and played on the Sr. High and Jr. High Girls Basketballs team. Musically inclined, she played three instruments and was section leader in RHS's Marching Band, where they won numerous awards and marched in the Orlando and Virginia, Niagara Falls Invitationals. She was recently honored as a distinguished leader by the Northeast Alumni Association, awarding her recognition on the Hallowed Halls at Northeast Jr. High School with portrayals of pictures and write ups. She was on the Board of Red Knights Squires Club, as secretary, helping initiate its start up. She was awarded the Dr. Goodhart Award for exemplary service to the Squires Club. She was a member of the Reading HS Alum Association and her 1989 Class Reunion Committee. An excellent swimmer, Michelle helped her College Manor teammate win numerous city and county championships.
Michelle loved RHS Basketball, the beach, gambling, music, and was very artistic and excellent at crafts. She loved traveling with her family in the USA, England, France, and especially in Italy. Pizza was her favorite food. She had many cats, dogs, and cared for all animals. She cherished her family, her Lancaster and Reading teachers, and all her friends.
Cheryl and I will always love and miss our precious daughter. She was an idealist, yet practical, but most of all, loving. She really enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a gift from God to us. Free from pain, she is forever in our hearts, at peace and in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at 3PM at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Family and friends will be received from 1-3PM.
