Mickey Lynn Gilliland was called to be with his Lord and Savior on September 16th,
2025. Mickey's life was dedicated to serving God through the service of others. Family,
friends and complete strangers have all experienced the Grace of God through his kind
words and working hands. We miss you and we love you.
Mickey spent most of his life ministering to others as a Church of Christ Minister at several
churches. He also worked as an automotive mechanic and co-owned Gilliland Automotive
Service with his father, General. He retired from the Department of Human Services of
Oklahoma where he served as a Social Worker but enjoyed one more job working at the
Oklahoma Science Museum in his retirement. We would be remiss to exclude mentioning
his love for riding and teaching people to ride Segways at the museum.
Mickey was a true renaissance man and wanted to do it all. To name a few, he had a pilot's
license and purchased a plane with a group of friends. He was an avid reader and book
collector and was involved with Friends of the Library. He was a bicyclist and competed
more than a couple of times in the Hotter'n Hell Hundred race in Wichita Falls, Texas. His
mind was wired to engineer and invent. He built a recumbent bike and gave rise to many
creative improvements in the aerodynamics and efficiency of his bicycles and cars, which
often came to fruition on the kitchen table using materials he found.
He had a deep love of learning and enjoyed acting on all that he learned. Languages,
music, math, mechanics, athletics, philosophy and of course theology were all subjects
that thrilled Mickey. And when anyone needed help in those areas, he was always ready,
willing and able to put his knowledge into action. Though the results were not always the
most practical and/or aesthetic of solutions, his willingness to use his gifts for the service
of others was truly beautiful in the eyes of the Lord.
On March 2, 1958, Mickey met the girl of his dreams and love of his life. Lucky for him, she
proposed to him the night they met and married him 10 months later. Over the next 66
years of marriage, they together served and shared their love for each other, family, friends
and the Lord.
Mickey is survived by his children, Jeanna Mitchell (and husband Terry), Michael Gilliland,
Sandra Lovelace (and husband Keith), Philip Gilliland (and wife Stephanie) and Mike
Hinson (and wife Julie). He was the proud grandfather to: Alana Ouazzani, David Stoldt,
Apryl Stoldt, Ashley Cook, Tyler Gilliland, Justin Gilliland, Mitch Lovelace, Cole Gilliland, Ally
Lovelace, William Gilliland, Isabella Dowdy and Tessa Gilliland, and great grandfather to:
Kaylyn Gilliland, Brooklyn Cook, Delilah Gilliland, Noah Stoldt, Isaac Stoldt, Emma
Gilliland, Aubry Gilliland, Elizabeth Gilliland and Sadie Gilliland. He loves them all, is
watching over them, and can't wait to share and laugh with them again.
He was preceded in death by his bride, Betty, parents, General and Judy Gilliland and two brothers, Harlen
and Bernie Joe.
Over the years, Mickey has been an exemplary role model for what a true man of God
should be. Hardworking, passionate and honest to a fault. Not for his own betterment but
for the sake of others and for the glory of God.
Though our hearts are heavy, we remember his unique sense of humor, passions, and
wisdom in the quiet moments and through the re-telling of the legacy of a truly good man.
Mickey's family & friends will gather to celebrate his life at Bethany Church of Christ on
October 4th at 11:00AM.
We extend our thanks to all staff members at Warr Acres Nursing Center, Cura Hospice
and Bethany Church of Christ for their loving and exemplary service.
To honor Mickey's life and legacy, the family invites memorial gifts to The Michael J. Fox
Foundation for Parkinson's Research at www.michaeljfox.org/give-tribute.
