February 5th, 2022 Miguel A. Mendez passed away at 62 years of age. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and husband. He was the beloved husband of Arelis (Peguero) Mendez. He was the beloved father of Aracelis Mendez, Yanet Mendez, Ana C. Mendez, and Miguel Mendez, Loving grandfather of Jerusalen and Miguel J. Leon.
Born in the Dominican Republic a son of the late Miguel and Altagracia (Valdezpina ) Mendez.
He was a jewelry worker for the Rona Jewelry Corp in Warwick.
Miguel was a charismatic jokester who always lit up the room with his great personality. When he walked into a quiet room, he would immediately start talking to everyone. If he went to a restaurant, he would not only be super nice to the waitress/waiter he would ask about their day, what to eat, and give him/her a playful nickname.
He loved baseball especially the Boston Red Sox, enjoyed playing dominos with his friends and family as well as watching karate movies. In his younger days, he was a black belt in Karate and had the opportunity to teach many people in the Dominican Republic as well as Puerto Rico. He lived a very active life. He rode a motorcycle, loved swimming, eating out, and always made-up nicknames for everyone.
He loved to cook for his family and would please any request from his daughters. His specialties included rice and shrimp, salmon, pork shoulder, and rice and peas (moro de guandule). He loved music, particularly salsa from the 80s. Some of his favorite songs were Paquito Guzman's song la juma de ayer, El hombre incredible by Marvin Santiago and Pedro Navaja by Ruben Blades. He was a strong humble man who loved making people laugh.
Miguel was a man with a noble heart who touched many lives. His memory will continue to live on through his family and his friends. His grace, friendliness and strength have encouraged all of us to always live life fully and not take any moment for granted. He will live on through all the many lives he touched especially his family. His kind spirit and wise words of wisdom will forever be carried on by all his loved ones.
