Mildred "Midge" Baker

Midge Baker,  departed this world on August 18, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graced the earth with her presence on August 4, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of strength, independence, and unwavering love for her family.

A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Hickory, Pennsylvania, Midge pursued further education and achieved a degree in English from California University of Pennsylvania. Her academic achievements reflected her passion for knowledge and her appreciation for the written word, which she would carry into her life’s experiences.

Midge's professional journey was marked by her pivotal role with the Drug Enforcement Administration, where she lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt, for six transformative years. This chapter in her life was filled with adventure, as she traveled extensively throughout Europe while fulfilling her responsibilities with the DEA. Her experiences abroad nurtured an appreciation for diverse cultures and instilled in her an adventurous spirit that resonated with those around her.

An ardent lover of animals, Midge's compassionate nature shone brightly when she discovered a homeless cat wandering the streets of Cairo. Without hesitation, she brought this feline companion back to the United States, showcasing her kindness and nurturing instincts. Her affinity for German Shepherds exemplified her deep connection with animals, a love that was matched only by her dedication to her family.

Midge was a woman of many talents and interests. Her love for flower gardening brought beauty to her surroundings, while her skills at the piano entertained family and friends alike. Known for her culinary prowess, she found joy in baking, often sharing her delicious creations with loved ones.

With her strong will and independent spirit, Mildred maintained lifelong friendships, Her personality was a beacon of warmth and reliability, making her a cherished friend and confidante.

Midge is survived by her devoted son, Keith Baker, and his wife, Helen Baker; her daughter, Marcia Johnston, and son-in-law, Gary Johnston; and her daughter Janice Baker, alongside her fiancé, Jim DeBarr. She takes with her cherished memories of her grandchildren: Justin DeBarr; Kevin Walker and his wife, Kendy; Jason Walker and his wife, Megan; her beloved granddaughter, Kaylyn Baker, and grandson, Reese Baker. Her great-grandchildren, Alexis Barnhart; Brian Walker; Lucas Walker; Russell Walker; Sophia Walker; and Garrett Walker, will carry her legacy forward. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her brother-in-law, Marko Brigich.

Midge joins her beloved parents, Stanley Bronco and Isabel Badgett Bronco, and her dear sister, Marilyn Brigich, who predeceased her, in eternal rest. Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. An indomitable woman of substance, Midge Baker will forever be cherished and remembered by her loving family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in the future.
