Mildred M. (Fintel) Buntemeyer, age 93 of Broken Bow, Nebraska, departed this life on December 5, 2024, at Jennie Melham Memorial Hospital. She was the youngest child of Edward and Bertha (Fangmeyer) Fintel and was born on the family farm near Byron, Nebraska on September 1, 1931.

Mildred's education began at a country school near her home until the eighth grade when her parents moved to town, and she attended Deshler High School. After her graduation in 1949, she worked at the local grocery store until her marriage to Herbert Buntemeyer in 1951. While Herb served in the army in Korea, she assisted a local dentist as a dental hygienist. She saved her earnings that would help buy a home for her and Herb in the future.

Upon Herb's return from service, they lived in Deshler where their first child, a son Steven, was born. Herb began working for the telephone company, Northwestern Bell, which moved them to Grand Island, Nebraska, and eventually to Broken Bow, Nebraska. Twins Rebecca and Mitchell were born shortly after the move to Broken Bow.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, Mildred remained a faithful Christian serving her church in many volunteer activities. When the twins started kindergarten, she joined the local bowling league in the early 1960's and participated for almost 50 years. As her children grew, she shared her love of sewing by altering clothes for neighbors and friends as well as making some of her children's clothes. While her children were in college, she began working at Bell's Bow Bootery. Over many years, she volunteered at the Hospital Rummage sale, Big Red Barn, and Wild Rose Gallery.

She was known for her whistle, and the entire neighborhood knew when the Buntemeyer kids were summoned home because you could hear it for blocks!!! Steve, Mitch, and Becky knew they needed to go home then and not wait!

The following family loved ones preceded her in death: husband Herbert Buntemeyer, parents Edward and Bertha Fintel, in laws Fritz and Alvina Buntemeyer, brother Vernon (Irene) Fintel, brother Harland Fintel, sister Lola (Clay) Ziemke, sister Deloras (Glenn) Ferguson, brother-in-law Carl (Lorene) Buntemeyer, sister-in-law Dorothy (Paul) Paysen, sister-in-law Irma (Lyle) Cole, sister-in-law Lenora (Paul) Eggers, brother-in-law Edward (lnes) Buntemeyer, and brother-in-law Paul (Lorene) Buntemeyer.

Mildred is survived by her son, Steven Buntemeyer and his wife Judy of North Platte, Nebraska. Daughter, Rebecca Graves and her husband Bill of Port St Joe, Florida. Son, Mitchell and his wife Melody of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Seven grandchildren include Sara (Will) Robinson, Aaron (Krystle) Buntemeyer, Joel (Mindy) Buntemeyer, Brittany (Logan) Mann, Ashley (Neil) Bedwell, Lauren (Jonathon) Kerr, Adam Buntemeyer and eight great grandchildren (Amelia, Olivia, Ella, Laney, Titus, Ryker, Alex and Mackenzie).

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
