Mildred Ann "Millie" Burns

Mildred Ann (Millie) Burns, age 91, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Aspen Care Center while under hospice care.

Millie was born on February 7, 1934, on the family farm near Ponca, Nebraska. She was the seventh of eleven children born to Daniel H. and Celia (Curran) Rush. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, Nebraska.

Millie married Roger Lee Burns on April 14, 1953, in Fort Richardson, Alaska. They shared 59 years of marriage and were blessed with nine children.

Millie is survived by six of her children: Brenda (Dave) Lewis, Jenny (Randy) Gubbels, Dennis (Helen) Burns, Valerie (Simon) Wheldon, Rita (Tim) Homminga, and Russell (Dava) Burns; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; infant daughter Geralyn Renee; sons Billy Burns and Terry Burns; three grandchildren-Kristina Burns, Randy Goebel, and Jason Gubbels; and four sisters and five brothers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Charles Step Funeral Home, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service followed by a rosary.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 23, at Our Lady of Loretto Church, with an instate beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.
