Mildred Ann Bowie Epperson February 28, 1941 –December 6, 2025
Mildred Ann Bowie Epperson, known lovingly as Ann, was born on February 28, 1941, in
Carthage, Mississippi, to William Pinkney and Bertha Ann Creel. A bright and determined student, she graduated from Carthage High School as valedictorian. On December 21, 1957, she married Jesse Henry Epperson, Jr., beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion. Together they first made their home at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Georgia, before returning to Mississippi. Between 1960 and 1964, Ann and Jesse welcomed three children, and in 1973 the family settled in Dallas, Texas.
Once her children were in grade school, Ann pursued her own education with remarkable dedication. She studied part-time at Richland College and the University of Texas at Arlington, ultimately earning her master's degree in social work from Texas Woman's University, consistently achieving placement on the Dean's List.
Ann devoted her career to serving children and families. She began as a social worker in Denton, Texas, and later became Director of the United Way Infant Intervention Program in Arlington, where she championed services for children with special needs. When the program was acquired by Baylor, Ann continued her work with distinction, earning numerous awards and recognition for her tireless advocacy. Her efforts touched countless lives, guiding families through the complexities of social services and healthcare with compassion and strength.
Outside of her professional life, Ann and Jesse cherished their weekend home in Edgewood, where they eventually retired. Ann found joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her cows, and her beloved dog, Luna. She gave generously of her time to her community, volunteering at the Heritage Farm Museum in Edgewood and participating actively in Cheatham Memorial Methodist Church.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse Jr., and her eldest son Jesse III along with her two sisters, Pearl Humphries and Sara Adcock and nephew Kea Adcock.
She is lovingly remembered by:
