Mildred Irene Herringshaw, 77, of Fort Plain, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
She was born on July 3, 1947, in Little Falls, NY, to the late George and Reba (Mosher) Herringshaw. Mildred grew up in the local area with her nine siblings and attended Fort Plain Central School District. Afterwards, she joined the Liberty ARC program in Palatine Bridge, eventually moving to their Fort Plain residence where she lived for close to 20 years. Here she assisted during the Day Habilitation Program, volunteering to make snack bags and feed the animals, with the fish always being her favorite.
Mildred enjoyed shopping and loved watching television, especially her game shows. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan and would always be found listening to his music. The holidays and her birthday were her favorite time of year, as she always knew she would see her family. In the Liberty Program she had the opportunity to meet Kenny, a dear friend whom she had a very close relationship with.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Reba Herringshaw; sisters Bonnie Herringshaw and Jane Ross; and brothers George Herringshaw Jr. and Melton "Bud" Herringshaw Sr.
Mildred is survived by her sister Leona Hazzard; brothers Roger, Donnie, Gene, and Charles "Chuck" Herringshaw; longtime friend Kenny; many friends and staff members of the Fort Plain Liberty ARC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 12pm to 1pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A service of remembrance will follow at 1pm. Afterwards, Mildred will be laid to rest at Rural Park Cemetery in Ingham Mills Station next to her parents.
