Minerva "Minnie" M. Gil, 86, of
San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 30, 2023. She was born on April 11, 1937, in
San Antonio, Texas. Minerva was a kind-hearted and resilient woman, leaving a lasting impact on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A woman of deep faith, Minerva was a devout Catholic and found solace in her regular attendance at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Sundays were sacred to her, as she never missed a Mass and found comfort in reciting the rosary multiple times each day. Her faith shaped her character and guided her through life, inspiring others with her unwavering devotion to God.
Minerva will be remembered for her strength, hospitality, and dedication to family. She held on to cherished family traditions, delighting in singing off-key and dancing with joy whenever oldies or Tejano music played. At family gatherings, Minerva lit up the room with her distinctive sense of humor, bringing laughter and joy to all. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her role as a mother and grandmother.
Professionally, Minerva wore many hats throughout her life. She worked tirelessly at Christie's Seafood Restaurant and Piedras Negras de Noche Restaurant before becoming the much-loved School Cafeteria Lunch Lady and Homeroom Mom for her three children. Later, alongside her beloved husband, she embarked on a new venture, opening Casa Moreno Mexican Restaurant. However, it was her selfless role as Grandma Minnie that brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment.
In her leisure time, Minerva enjoyed exploring the streets of San Antonio, reminiscing about her childhood in
Woodsboro, Texas, and regaling loved ones with tales of family adventures in the fields. She was a passionate cook, known for her mouthwatering dishes prepared with love. Minerva took great pleasure in passing on her cherished recipes, ensuring that they would be enjoyed and shared by future generations.
Visitation for Minerva will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at Mission Park - Medical Center Funeral Chapel, located at 8332 Fredericksburg Rd.,
San Antonio, TX 78229. Prayers and a Rosary will take place at 7:00pm. On Wednesday, September 6th, there will be a Funeral Mass with Visitation starting at 9:30am followed by Mass at 10:30am at St. Brigid Catholic Church, located at 6907 Kitchener Street,
San Antonio, TX 78240. The interment will be held at Mission Burial Park Cemetery North, located at 20900 IH 10 West,
San Antonio, TX 78257.
Minerva Gil leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by her children: Jeannette Chavez (Joe), Roberto J. Gil, Jr. (Denise), and Gina Gil; granddaughters: Christine Chavez, Giselle Vazquez, Giuliana Lares, and Madisyn Gil; siblings: Rachel Camacho, Delia Lucio, Yolanda Rodriguez (Juan), and David Moreno (Margaret). She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Roberto J. Gil, and son, Robert J. Gil. Minerva now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her parents, Jose and Gregoria Moreno, as well as her siblings: Jose (Pepe) Moreno, Leo Moreno, Edward Moreno, Reynaldo Moreno, and Maria (Irma) Casanova.
Her memory will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished. May she find everlasting peace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father.
