Minerva C. "Minnie" Pompa, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born on August 22, 1931, in Brownsville, Texas, to Juan G. and Martha Cortinas.
Minnie grew up in Brownsville and throughout her life also made homes in Corpus Christi, La Puente, California, and
Katy, Texas. She graduated from Homer Hanna High School. She was formerly married to Frank V. Pompa of Corpus Christi, Texas, and together they shared many years raising their family.
Family was at the center of Minnie's life. She loved cooking, floral arranging, and playing in her yard, where she found joy in her flowers. She had a special place in her heart for gatherings at home, where everyone was welcome. Known as the "Queen of $9.99 shopping," Minnie had a spirited personality, a fiery wit, and a heart full of passion. She was affectionately called "Minnie Ha Ha" by her friends, and she was known for being a perfectionist in everything she did. Her favorite colors, yellow and orange, reflected the warmth and brightness she brought into every room. Minnie also appreciated life's simple pleasures - especially a good Bloody Mary or a scotch over ice with a splash of water, enjoyed in the company of loved ones.
She is survived by her children Lucy (Pete) Reyna, John (Annette) Pompa, Bobby (Cheryl) Pompa, and Ruben (Belinda) Pompa. She was a proud grandmother to Joe (Brenda) Pompa, Benjamin (Melissa) Pompa, Kristen Pompa (Steven Donalson),
Vanessa (Bob) Borths, John R. Pompa II (Melissa), and Amanda Holzworth. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren David, Robert, Marley, Jaxon, Travis, Luke, Madelyn, Sophie, Eleanor, Leonardo "Cai," Maverick, and Elsie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan G. and Martha Cortinas; her siblings, Elba Espinosa, Juan Cortinas, Aida Elliott, and Andy Cortinas; and her great-grandson, Malachi U. Pompa-Martinez.
Minnie's legacy is one of love, strength, and devotion to family. She will be remembered for her fierce spirit, her laughter, and the way she always made everyone feel at home.
Flowers are welcome, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
