On January 30, 1953, the world was graced with the birth of a remarkable woman, Mirtita Rivera Serrano, in the vibrant city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Known fondly by many as Mirta, she carried the spirit of her island within her heart, making her an enduring beacon of warmth and resilience. In line with the words of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "Human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them...life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves." Mirta embodied this quote, constantly evolving, adapting, and redefining herself in the face of life's challenges.
Mirtita Rivera Serrano found purpose in her role as a maintenance worker at City Hall in Fortaleza, where she was a cherished part of the team until her retirement in 2015. She was a woman who believed in hard work, dedication, and the importance of contributing to her community. Her work ethic and commitment left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside her. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., "No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." Mirta was a living testament to these words.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Alberto Roman Perez, her Four sons: Angel Marcano, Jose A. Roman, Jonathan Roman and Bryant Setiawan, her siblings: Yazmin Rivera, Ivette Rivera, Carmen Rivera, Myrna Cruz and Diego Rivera, Jr., her grandchildren, family and friends who will forever carry Mirtita's spirit in their hearts. She joins her parents, Diego Rivera and Herminia Serrano-Rivera, her sister, Elba L. Rivera and her brother, Heriberto Rivera in the heavens, adding another star to the celestial canvas.
The viewing for Mirtita Rivera Serrano will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, MA, followed by her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield Inc., 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109.
