Mitchell D. Sanders

Mitchell Dean Sanders passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in Louisville, KY, at the age of 81.
Born on January 15, 1944, in Louisville, KY, Mitchell was the son of Floyd and Lorene (Kerr) Sanders. He graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville before beginning his career as a draftsman. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to become an architect, a profession he approached with passion and professionalism, always holding himself and others to the highest standards.
Mitchell married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Booze) Sanders, and together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Family was at the heart of his life, and he was always willing to lend a hand on special projects, whether it was painting or hanging wallpaper. He was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews who knew better than to sit in his chair or eat a pinwheel cookie without permission.
When his grandsons were born, Mitchell made one thing very clear-he would not be called Grandpa, Papa, Pawpaw, Pops, or any of the usual names. His grandsons lovingly called him "Grumpy," a nickname that reflected their deep affection for him. And much like the Disney character, his gruff exterior hid a soft and compassionate soul. Grumpy loved them deeply and was immensely proud of them.
Mitchell enjoyed good food and great company, often spending time at the Corner Café, where he shared countless meals and conversations with friends and the welcoming staff who became like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Lou Call. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; his son, Damon Sanders (Stacie); his daughter, Dena Sanders; and his sister, Christine Mayfield (Greg) of Lancaster, PA. He was a proud grandfather to Mateo Sollano, Mitchell Sanders, and Grant Sanders. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbors who will deeply miss him.
No memorial service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mitchell's honor to Hosparus of Louisville.
