Lawrence Moore "Larry" Hampton, 84, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025. He was born on April 22, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky, the second of three children to Ernest and Viola Hampton.
Larry graduated from Eastern High School in 1959 and continued his education at Vanderbilt University and Union College before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville.
In 1965, Larry married Barbara Compton, and together they built a life on a working farm in Oldham County. There, they raised three children, cultivated a yearly tobacco crop, and managed a variety of livestock, primarily beef cattle. To make ends meet, Larry hauled sawdust for horse bedding and sold Moorman's livestock feed.
In 1992, Larry married Nancy Mooney and returned to Louisville, where they made their home in Indian Hills. He was a lifelong member of Christ Church United Methodist and an avid gun owner and lifetime member of the NRA. Larry cherished his many trips to Alaska and the great outdoors.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Viola Hampton, his brother Roger Hampton, and his wife Nancy Mooney Hampton. He is survived by his children Jody Hampton (Krista), Katherine Hampton Noland (William), and Meghann Hampton Vamvas (Matt), as well as his grandchildren, Isabella, Griffin, Leslie, and Henry. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Margo Mooney (Jerry) and Rich Mooney (Heidi), his sister, Peggy Kisslinger (Leonard), and many cousins and friends.
A memorial service with a reception to follow will be held on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 AM at Christ Church United Methodist on Brownsboro Road in Louisville.
