Master Officer Mitchell Watne, 30, Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, in Antler, ND.
Mitchell Ryan Watne was born December 11, 1993, the son of Matthew and Suzanne (Gackle) Watne, in St. Louis Park, MN. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Bishop Ryan High School in 2012. He attended Minot State University, Bismarck State College, and the Peace Officer Training Program and Law Enforcement in Grand Forks, ND. This led him into his career as a police officer with the Minot Police Department for the past five years where he had many friends and respected colleagues. He was incredibly passionate about his career with tremendous respect for his brothers in arms and their unwavering dedication to our community.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with family and friends, particularly during the holidays. He was an avid multi-player gamer where he developed friendships from around the U.S. while playing on the computer he personally built. He was a member of the St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, Minot. His faith became an unwavering theme in his life during recent years.
His loving family includes: mother, Suzanne Watne, Minot, ND; father, Matt (Susan Ness) Watne, Minot, ND; uncles and aunts, Eugene (Nancy) Gackle, Columbus, IN, Renee (Ron) Ballou, Lincoln, NE, Gerard (Linda) Gackle, Sun City West, AZ, Dave Gackle, Aberdeen, SD, Rebecca Gackle, Maple Grove, MN, Mary (Dave) Anderson, Sun City West, AZ, Bob (Cheri) Gackle, Velva, ND, Mark (Christine) Gackle, Prior Lake, MN, Steve (Karine) Watne, Edina, MN, Carmen (Dan) Boggs, Everett, WA, Nancy (Duffy) Mitchell, Seattle, WA; and numerous loving nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Hazel Gackle, Clair and Darlene Watne; cousins, Rebecca Gackle, Scott Gackle, Duffy Mitchell; great cousin, Kaiden Gutierrez, and aunt, Nancy Gackle.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to St. Therese, Church of the Little Flower building and maintenance fund, the ND Suicide Prevention Coalition at https://ndspc.org/donate/ or the future Mitch Watne's Heralds for Hope Fund.

last year i was a "bad kid" i was smoking and fighting at school but watne was my sro and he helped me out a lot even became my friend its sad too see he was taken away so soon:(. one of the good ones taken way way too soon i hope his family is doing good and i hope he knows a lot of people had love for him and that he was a awesome guy always made me smile and laugh and always had time too crack a joke the question was something i learned from him and it was responsibility and how to be passionate too others.
