Mona Gros Obituary
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 8:30 am until the time of service.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.
Mona Gros, was born March 29, 1952, in Crowley, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. After high school, she attended University of Southwestern Louisiana, presently known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Mona began her career as an Accountant with Broussard Poche Lewis and Breaux. She then worked for several years at University of Southwestern Louisiana, and completed her career after 33 years at the Surgery Center Inc. in Lafayette, LA.
She loved to travel and the beach was her favorite place to go to on vacations. Mona especially enjoyed spending time at the casino, getting lost in a good book and working on puzzles. Family meant everything to Mona; she leaves a legacy of love and will be deeply missed.
Mona is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, James Gros, of Lafayette, LA; her son, Corey Gros and his wife, Heather, of Jacksonville, FL; her daughter, Jill Gros, of Lafayette, LA; her two sisters, Karen Blanchard and her husband, Wayne, of New Iberia, LA and Melanie LeBlanc and her husband, Ken, of Roberts Cove, LA and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Leonard and Mae Joyce Hoffpauir Spaetgens.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Ken LeBlanc, Nick Puffe, Wayne Blanchard, Johnny Spaetgens, Bubba Spaetgens and David Cormier.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Mona and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mona's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, 800-805-5856, https://www.stjude.org/donate.

Jimmy, Lonnie and I are heartbroken upon hearing of Mona´s death. You talked about Mona at Lynn´s funeral and she has been in our thoughts and prayers since then. I was blessed to work with Mona for about 48 years at USL and at Surgery Center, this lady was competent, dependable, trustworthy, and caring about her work and the people she worked with. She leaves behind many friends from her work life and her faith life. Jim, Corey, Jill, Karen and Mel I know you will miss her, and I also know the beautiful impact she had in your lives. Blessings to all her family and friends.

Oh, Jimmy! I am heartbroken for you, Corey, and Jill. She was such a kind, loving person. I remember our talks when we were pregnant for our first and doing aerobics....and unknowingly we used the same name! May God help you during this time - My love and heartfelt sympathy.
