Monica Jo (Cottrill) Travelstead

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Monica Jo (Cottrill) Travelstead, age 57, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who left us far too soon on Wednesday, November 19. Her husband of 27 years, Roy James "Jimmy" Travelstead II, was alongside her as she went home to her loving Lord and Savior.

Born in Clarksburg on February 25, 1968, a daughter of Marion Jeff Cottrill, and the late Alma Rosella Cottrill. Monica is survived by her husband, Jimmy; her father, Jeff; her five children: Jamey Travelstead (Lori), Joshua Travelstead (Jennifer), Michael Murphy (Amy), Alissa Gilligan (Justin), and Sean Travelstead (Jordan); her grandchildren: Emma, Briar, Aubrey, Ella, Camdyn, Roy, Cutler, Charlotte, Tyler, Claire, Cruz, Oliver, Harper, Rory, and Easton; and her sisters: Janis, Brenda and Carol; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Monica was known for being a warm and welcoming presence, a "mom" to anyone that needed one. A skilled baker, she enjoyed hunting for the best, often gluten-free, recipe and perfecting every dish she made. Her over-the-top family functions were filled with enough food and love that everyone left with both full bellies and hearts.

To her grandchildren she was lovingly known as Gigi, a name she cherished. She carried that role with pride, pouring boundless love, patience, and delight into everyone who called her by it. Her family was her heart, and she loved each of them with a devotion that shaped the best parts of all our lives.

The world is a lot less bright without her in it, and it may never know what it has lost. But we will carry her love, her affection, and her generous spirit with us for the rest of our lives as a legacy of light she leaves in every one of us.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Church in Fairmont, West Virginia, on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11:00 am with fellowship and meal to follow.
