Morris Isaac Stevens Jr. of Hondo went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was 79.
Born August 13, 1943, in Paris, TX, he was the son of Morris Sr. and Willie Jean Lowe Stevens.
Morris graduated from Industrial High School in 1963 and attended Victoria College. In 1966 he joined the Naval Air Station Reserves as an aviation technician. His military service ended in 1972 with an honorable discharge.
He married the love of his life Ellen Frances Skopal at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Victoria, Texas, on December 5, 1970.
Morris started working for Wide Light in Victoria, TX. In 1964 he was hired by Western Electric, and later moved to Southwestern Bell. The company eventually merged with AT&T where he became a Central Office Switching Manager in Southwest Texas. He retired in 1991 after 25 years of employment.
Morris developed a skill for craftmanship. He had a natural talent for making beautiful, finished products out of wood and almost any other material. He restored many homes for rent, sale, and personal use.
In his lifetime he served on several committees for the City of Hondo.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, David James Stevens.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Ellen Frances Skopal Stevens; sons, Morris Stevens III of Buenos Aires and Peter Stevens (Sara) of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Rouke, Dante, Rebecca and Hannah; brother, Charles Stevens (Charlene); and sister, Patricia Head (Mike).
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m., at New Fountain Methodist Church. Private interment will be at a later date at Hirschhauser Cemetery in Inez, TX.
