Daisy Mae Benton Robertson was born on May 24, 1933, in Selma, North Carolina, to the late Ransom and Fannie Benton. She entered eternal rest on December 7, 2024, at Johnston UNC Health in Smithfield, NC. Daisy attended Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, NC, and later began a long career at K.R. Edwards Tobacco Company, where she worked diligently for over 30 years. Known for her culinary skills, Daisy's love of cooking brought joy to countless people. Her apple turnovers, chicken pastry, candied yams, and fried chicken were legendary, earning her a reputation as a true Southern Cook. She generously opened her home to anyone in need of a meal, even sharing her hospitality with CSX Train Workers for many years.
Daisy's greatest pride and joy were her family and her community. She was deeply involved in her children's lives, cherished her grandchildren, and she loved as her own countless other children who came into her life. Daisy was a devoted servant of her faith and community. She was lifelong member of Lee's Chapel AME Church in Selma, NC where she served faithfully as a Church Mother and Missionary. In 2023, she was draped as a Life Legacy Missionary in the 2nd Episcopal District of the AME Church, demonstrating her dedication to service and advocacy. Daisy was an active member of the Johnston County Democratic Women, the Johnston County Citizens Association, and countless other organizations.
Daisy was united in marriage to the late Nollie Robertson, Jr. Together, they raised six daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Janice and Joyce; five siblings, Frank Benton, Earlene Benton, Minnie Benton, Marylena Davis, and Jessica Sims; and one granddaughter, Marcia Carpenter. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Surviving are her daughters: Yvonne Carpenter of Clayton, NC, Doris Edwards of Smithfield, NC, Gladys Finch (Shedrick) of Pine Level, NC, and Alice Weeks (Isaac) of Smithfield, NC. She is also survived by her siblings: James Benton ( D o r i s ) . R o b e r t B e n t o n . Laura B e n t o n . a n d Elizabeth B e n t o n . all o f Selma. N C . a n d Etta P o s t o n o f Smithfield, NC; and brothers-and sisters-in-law: Willie Robertson of Newport News, VA; Leamon Robertson, Betty Dunn, Doris Brooks, Elmo Shepard, and Vertis Richardson, al of Selma, NC. Daisy's memory will also be cherished by her son-in-law, Tony Adams, her 14 grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, the many children whom she loved as her own, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be fondly remembered by special friends: Jimmy Latham, James Dupree, Teresa Foster, Vernon Harvey, and Pat Wilson. Daisy Mae Benton Robertson's life was a testament to love, service, and generosity. She will be dearly missed by al who had the privilege knowing her.
