Mrs. Dorothy Porter Baxter, age 97, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Walden's Cove Personal Care Home in Jefferson, Georgia.

Mrs. Baxter was born in Commerce, Georgia to the late Columbus Benson and Mollie Todd Porter. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1945 and was Valedictorian of her class. She attended business and accounting school in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked for the Farmer's Home Administration for many years and later with NASA.

Mrs. Baxter was married to the late Dr. Duard O. Baxter. She and her husband opened their dental practice in Winder in 1964. Mrs. Baxter worked alongside her husband as a dental hygienist and office manager for many years until they both retired. Mrs. Baxter loved to cook and enjoyed reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. Cooking and entertaining was her love language, and she did it well. Mrs. Baxter and her husband were avid gardeners and enjoyed working in their yard and creating a beautiful landscape. Mrs. Baxter was a member of Winder First Baptist Church where she served in various ways. Mrs. Baxter's greatest passion was her family. She loved them all dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with them.

Mrs. Baxter is survived by her three children and spouses, Doug and Shannon Baxter of Winder, Julie and Scott Marshall of Dawsonville, and Dee Russell of Winder. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and their spouses, Baxter and Christine Russell of Scottdale, Mollie and Casey Chafin of Forsyth, John and Emily Baxter of Winder, Robert and Devin Marshall of Gainesville, Emory and Sara Russell of Flowery Branch, Libby and Nick Brown of Greenville, SC, Mary and Avery Webster of Jefferson, and Jacob and Katie Marshall of Gainesville. Mrs. Baxter is also blessed by her great grandchildren, Mattox and Tate Russell, Cooper and Charlie Chafin, Duard Baxter, and three more great grandsons arriving in early 2026.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. 

Memorials may be made to Winder First Baptist Church, 625 Jefferson Hwy, Winder, GA 30680.
