Mrs. Rachel Perkins Austin, age 94, of Winder, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Rachel was well-known as the owner of Austin Grocery, a cherished country store on Hog Mountain Road, that became a landmark for local residents. Her commitment to serving her community was matched only by her love for people. Rachel's generous spirit and warmth touched the lives of many, making her a friend to all who entered her store.
Rachel was a member of Hebron Christian Church, where she actively participated in the church community. For over 40 years, she taught Sunday School, sharing her faith with countless children and families.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James "Jim" Austin, as well as her parents, Ralph and Edna Perkins; her brothers, James and Billy Perkins and sister, Ann Hayes.
Rachel is survived by her daughter, Linda Crumley of Winder; grandson, Jim Bo Crumley of Winder; and two great-grandsons, Will Crumley and Justin Crumley of Bostwick.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Maddox-Carter Memorial Home with Rev. John Burchfield officiating. Burial will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Gordan Griffin officiating the graveside service. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Maddox-Carter Memorial Home.
Flowers are accepted or a donation to Hebron Building Fund at 2501 Hebron Church Rd, Winder, GA 30680.
