Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Ms. Roberta Johnson. Ms. Johnson passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Bridgeport, CT.
Mrs. Roberta Johnson was born on March 10, 1942, in Gordo, AL to Rev. William T. Mathews and Clara E. Mathews. After a long battle, Roberta succumbed to cancer and passed away peacefully in her home in Bridgeport, CT surrounded by loved ones.
Roberta graduated from Gordo High School and moved to Brooklyn, NY shortly after. Roberta soon found herself living in Stamford, CT where she met her first husband, Henry T. Poindexter, II (deceased) and they had four children, Gregory L. Poindexter (deceased), Renee McCord, Shari L. Poindexter, and Maritza Poindexter-Brown. Later, she met and married her second husband, Tracy Johnson, Sr., and they had one daughter, Crystal T. Johnson.
Roberta worked many years at Electrolux before moving onto Clairol where she retired in 1998. Roberta spent her leisure time baking cakes, watching Price is Right and doing word search puzzles. She loved the Lord and was a faithful and dutiful member of Union Baptist Church until she relocated to Thomson, GA where she became a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Roberta was known to her kids’ friends as one of the sweetest, coolest moms ever, who always had her door open and never made anyone feel unwelcomed.
Roberta is predeceased by her first and second husbands Henry T. Poindexter, II and Tracy Johnson, Sr., her son, Gregory T. Poindexter, her parents, William T. Mathews, Clara E. Mathews, and her brothers, Joseph W. Mathews, Harry Mathews, and Leon Mathews.
Roberta leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughters, Renee McCord (James) of Milford, CT, Shari L. Poindexter of North Hills, CA, Maritza Poindexter-Brown (Travis) of Bridgeport, CT, and Crystal T. Johnson of Newport News, VA, stepsons, William T. Harvey, Jr., Tracy Johnson, Jr., Timothy Johnson, Shonie Griffin and Tyree Griffin, and stepdaughters Wendy Harvey and Tracene Lee; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
