Searcy Leon Mullenix, age 91, of Gordo, AL passed away December 7, 2024 at Northport Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jaimie Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in Mt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cherrie Turnipseed Mullenix; son, Gary L. Mullenix; grandson, Benjamin Scott Brasher and his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Brasher and husband, Tim of Gordo; grandchildren, Molly, Lucy, Brandon and Sarah and a number of nieces and nephews.
"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, And loving favour rather than silver and gold." This verse from Proverbs exemplifies Searcy's life. Born a whopping 13 pounds on October 13,1933 to John Fredrick and Effie Mae Fendley Mullenix, he was the last of 10 children. After graduation from Gordo High School, he served his Country as an MP in the United States Army in Washington, DC. He worked at Central Foundry in Holt, Alabama for many years and retired from the Town of Gordo. He was a deacon of Mt. Moriah Free Will Baptist Church and served many years as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the Adult Men's Sunday School class. He loved his church and regularly helped keep the church grounds manicured. He was also a diehard Alabama fan recalling players, plays and statistics from years past to present day. He watched all Alabama sports, but football was his favorite. The family spent many Saturdays at his house watching the Crimson Tide. Searcy loved his family, immediate and extended, and looked forward to every 4th of July reunion or any occasion that brought them together. Searcy was loved by his nieces and nephews. They recall visits to Grandma and Grandpa's house when he still lived with them. He would often take the kids for rides to the store in Echola for treats in what they called his "cut 'oun" or his flashy cars with fins. Swimming trips to Shirley's Bridge or skiing in Carpenter's Lake were highlights for them. He loved the outdoors and kept his yard and garden in tip top shape. He was the best Dad to his children and Papaw to his grands and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chan Mullenix, Jason Mullenix, Josh Shirley, Joey Mullenix, Jeramy Smith, Steve Jones, Chad Quimby and Kevin Quimby.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Mt. Moriah Cemetery Fund, 43 Heritage Road, Ethelsville, AL 35461.
