Murry Norman Kyes, age 87, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, passing peacefully in his sleep. Born on April 15, 1938, Murry was a devoted father, cherished son and brother, proud grandfather, and friend to many. His presence was a steady source of love, strength, and laughter in the lives of those who knew him.
A true American spirit, Murry served his country as a proud Navy veteran. He carried that same sense of honor and dedication throughout his life, working tirelessly in a wide range of jobs-from factory floors to retail counters. A jack of all trades, he took great pride in providing for his family and never shied away from hard work.
Murry had a zest for life and a heart full of joy. He was most at peace surrounded by nature-whether fishing by the water's edge, camping under the stars, or simply sitting back with a good Western novel in hand, especially one by his favorite author, Louis L'Amour. His love for country music often had him tapping his toes, and he never turned down a good dance. He was quick with a shuffle in a card game and even quicker to share a warm laugh or gentle smile.
An athlete in his younger years, Murry played football in high school and remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life. Whether it was a ball game, a race, or anything in between, if it was on TV, Murry was watching-and likely cheering with enthusiasm.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Shirley Ann Kyes; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Thomas Pletenburg; his father, Paul Kyes, brother, Gerald Kyes.
Murry leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance in the hearts of his children: Ron (Lisa) Kyes of Arizona, Phylis (Kurt) Frick of Arizona, Thomas Kyes of Nevada, Roxanne (Glenn) Talbert of Ohio, Melinda (Doug) Horwith of California, Darla Milne of Iowa, Pamala Clark of Florida and Stephanee Bragg of Florida. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his gentle spirit and steadfast love.
While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the life he lived-full of resilience, laughter, and unconditional love. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his legacy will live on in the stories we tell, the lessons we carry, and the love we share.
Until we meet again, may you rest in peace, Murry. Your journey is complete, and you are finally home.
